VINEGAR is chairing a conference panel session at SECAC
October 16-19, 2019
Panel: “Now is the time, Here is the Place”
How do you invent a condition that does not yet exist? To make space for new work and new conversations, artists working in ephemeral, unconventional, or expanded practices are inventing new contexts to make and share artwork that does not easily fit into existing economic, social, and cultural structures. The effort to create a condition for art can be as important—and as lovingly done—as the artwork itself. This panel presents artists, collectives, and other culture producers that are doing the work of context-making as part of art-making. These artists will share stories and practical tips, and will come together in conversation about context-making as art-making in relation to contemporary issues.
C for Courtside presents Surround by VINEGAR
513 Cooper St Knoxville, TN 37917
Opening Reception: November 1, 2019
The pulsing repetitive beat, sweat soaking your carefully selected outfit, the hours that pass without much thought while you repeat the same movements over and over, the exhaustion disappearing when you hear that song that makes you get on the dance floor and keep going because it is just too good to miss. VINEGAR wants to go to a place where the ego falls away, where the body reconnects with the mind and the boundaries between us dissolve. Taking inspiration from 1990s midwest rave culture, VINEGAR invites you to melt into your surroundings. Let’s dance.

VINEGAR creates a special exhibition for Magic City Art Connection.
April 26-28, 2019
In an artist exhibitor tent, VINEGAR creates an installation, For the Sake of Transparency, as an earnest plea for transparency. Within one tent three artists will build an installation from drawings and pieces of drawings on transparency film sheets. The drawings will accumulate and overlap, creating layers on layers - blending into a mess of marks and forms. Such is the unconsciousness of a collective. It may not be pretty, yet the plea for transparency is clear.
In addition to the For the Sake of Transparency installation, VINEGAR will be hosting a special video art screening on Friday night (April 27) alongside the festival grounds after sundown.

What is the line between art and everyday life? This question is on the minds of VINEGAR’s first three artists, Ryan Meyer, Ann Trondson, and Melissa Yes. For one night, they were people-as-public-art. A true performance, it existed only in the moment. All that remains is a trace.
