SHAPE 1 : AUGUST 2020
Shape is a series of virtual residencies for artists, creatives, and culture-makers.
The inaugural Shape residency in August 2020 was an open-ended exploration of art, activism, agency and accountability.
Shape was a virtual residency that offered an open-ended exploration of art, activism, agency, and accountability. Vinegar offered this residency in response to a palpable urgency in the community to channel art and creative efforts towards social progress. Vinegar's staff and board members participated as resident artists alongside everyone else. Together, considered creative approaches toward social progress cultivated tools to enact our values in our art, lives, and communities. The residency concluded with an online exhibition and reception
Throughout the month of August 2020, the residency took place on Zoom and in each artist’s studio (wherever that may be), and concluded with a virtual exhibition of projects and ideas at vinegarprojects.org. The four Zoom sessions offered insights from artists and scholars (15 minute lectures) followed by group discussions, coordinated by Vinegar but led by all participants.
Shape was FREE* and open to any and all artists, creatives, and culture-makers from any location. The residency was conducted in English and American Sign Language.
